In an effort to reach out to the Latino community and increase youth leadership development, LCLAA hosts full and part-time, unpaid internships at their Washington, D.C. headquarters all year. Interns will have the opportunity to get involved in an organization that works to educate mobilize and advance the economic, social and political interests of Latino workers, their families and their communities.

The Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, (LCLAA), is America's premiere national organization dedicated to build social, economic and political power for Hispanic workers, their families, and their communities. Founded in 1973, LCLAA advocates for the interests of over 1.7 million Latino trade unionists throughout the country and Puerto Rico. LCLAA is a constituency group representing Latino workers from both the AFL-CIO and Change to Win Federation.
Internship Job Posting (Unpaid)
LCLAA's Internship Program- Fall/ Spring Semesters and Summer Program Internship: Policy and Advocacy Location: Washington, D.C.
LCLAA's Internship Program is a project-oriented Internship coupled with the exposure to the roles that the administrative, communications, research and marketing functions play in LCLAA's daily operations. This unique internship helps to develop leadership skills in areas such as communications, organizing, and event planning and team management.
Internship assignments vary in focus/design and are designed to provide maximum learning and exposure for the intern. Internship projects may include but are not limited to the following:
Conduct policy research on LCLAA legislative issues. Assisting National Staff and Chapters with LCLAA organizing and political campaigns. Assisting in the development of Training & Educational Materials. Attending meetings, congressional hearings and relevant events that discuss policies relevant to Latino working families. Contribute to our Online Advocacy and Messaging campaigns to our membership through research and writing as needed.
LCLAA's Internship Program- Fall/ Spring Semesters and Summer Program Internship: Environmental Research & Advocacy Location: Washington, D.C.
The environmental research and advocacy internship program will support the work of the National Latino Coalition on Climate Change (NLCCC). The work of the NLCCC focuses on doing outreach to the Latino community to foster a greater awareness about the impact of global warming on the Latino community in order to provide policy recommendations on how to address this critical issue. Internship projects may include but are not limited to the following:
Research of environmental policy as needed for the creation of informational pieces and reports Assist in the coordination and planning of briefings on climate change Assist in the identification of local and regional environmental leaders and experts Provide administrative help in the coordination of NLCCC leadership meetings, events, etc.
LCLAA's Internship Program- Fall/ Spring Semesters and Summer Program Internship: Communications Location: Washington, D.C.
Internship assignments vary in focus/design and are designed to provide maximum learning and exposure for the intern. Internship projects may include but are not limited to the following:
Keeping abreast of national and local news that impact Latino working families (ie: work, health care, education, immigration, etc). Assisting the Communications Director with the translation of news and documents from English to Spanish and vise versa. Compiling relevant news and research to serve as a resource in the drafting of press statements. Assist in the development of a comprehensive media list to media contacts in predominantly Hispanic regions of the country.
Qualifications:
- Basic Computer skills, Knowledge of Microsoft office (MS Word, Excell, Powerpoint, etc).
- Bilingual applicants in both Spanish and English are preferred although exceptions may be made for exceptional candidates.
- Experience/Knowledge or familiarity with labor unions and non-profit work a big plus.
- Must have strong interpersonal and communications skills.
- We look for respectful individuals that follow directions, demonstrate creativity, excellent work ethic, flexibility and initiative.
- Knowledge of HTML language, Photoshop, and Adobe illustrator are desirable but not required.
