Internships

Internship Program: Advocacy and Communications

In an effort to reach the Latino community and increase youth leadership development, LCLAA hosts interns at Washington, D.C. headquarters all year round. Interns will have the opportunity to get involved in an organization that works to educate, mobilize, and advance the economic, social, and political interests of Latino workers, their families and their communities.

LCLAA’s Internship Program builds emerging latino labor leaders through a project-based approach specifically focusing on the aspects of community organizing and development. Additionally, our program exposes interns to administrative, communications, research, and legislative advocacy work in our daily operations. Through this internship, students will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills like political organizing, writing and public speaking, event planning and team management.

Internship assignments vary in focus and design to provide maximum learning and exposure for the intern. Internship projects may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Contribute to our online advocacy and messaging campaigns to our membership through research, writing and creating social media content.

  • Conduct policy research on LCLAA legislative issues.

  • Assist the National Staff and Chapters with LCLAA organizing and campaigns.

  • Assist in the development of training and educational materials.

  • Attend meetings, congressional hearings, rallies, and relevant events that discuss policies relevant to Latino working families.

  • Along with experiencing the various aspects of our non-profit organization, interns will contribute to basic office operations. This includes providing staff support by answering phones, making copies, and filling.

  • Inez Rosales

"My internship experience at LCLAA was full of growth and unforgettable experiences. Being able to work with people who look like me and come from similar backgrounds was inspiring and only fueled my passion for the work LCLAA does. I was able to gain experience in different areas such as staffing a delegation at Capitol Hill with LCLAA members, preparing LCLAA’s report launch event, and helping out behind the scenes with LCLAA’s executive board meeting. These were all experiences I had never imagined a person like myself, former foster youth and first-gen, was capable of but with the support and guidance of the LCLAA staff, it was possible”

  • Areanna Marcos

“During my internship at LCLAA, I worked closely with a talented team of Latino professionals, gaining invaluable insights into non-profit operations and advocacy. From spearheading a solidarity campaign project to advocating for Latino workers' rights on Capitol Hill, each task presented a unique opportunity for growth and learning. I particularly appreciate the chance to challenge myself in assignments I hadn't encountered before, making this experience exceptionally valuable. I was responsible for crafting statements, letters, and talking points. I developed skills in graphic design, creating a podcast, and social media content creation. Beyond project work, networking with Latino leaders broadened my horizons and deepened my understanding of diversity and inclusivity in the workforce.”

“Interning at LCLAA was an enriching experience that exposed me to the vital work being done in the labor movement. LCLAA provided me with the tools and guidance necessary to advance the organization's mission while working on my professional development. It was an experiential learning process where I could apply my skill set and knowledge to real-world projects, which provided valuable lessons on how to hone these skills and grow professionally within the industry. Most importantly, being a LCLAA intern helped reaffirm my identity as a Latino and made me realize how crucial it is to support the community, whether through advocacy efforts or personal means. Thanks to LCLAA, I'm inspired to continue my professional growth and tackle the next endeavor that comes my way”.
